Chills & Thrills Night: "Old Dark House" (1932) & "Little Shop of Horrors" (1960)

In honor of Spooky Season, the Atheneum invites you to come to the Great hall to enjoy some classic horror films from the early and mid 20th century! Light refreshments will be provided.

This Sunday's double feature will be two comedic horror classics, "The Old Dark House" (1932) & "Little Shop of Horrors" (1960)

The Old Dark House (1932):

Based on the novel "Benighted" by J.B Priestly, the film is directed by James Whale, famed director of the film "Frankenstein" and features iconic actor Boris Karloff, best known for his role as Frankenstein's Monster, in the picture's ensemble. The film takes place in Wales and follows a group of travelers who, after a wrong turn, must seek shelter from a violent storm in an decaying country house, putting them in the company of an eccentric and potentially dangerous family.

Little Shop of Horrors (1960):

Probably best known for the Broadway Musical adaptation which it inspired, this comedic horror farce focuses on an assistant florist as he cultivates an impressive plant to bring attention to their struggling flower shop, . The plant, of course, has other plans, and begins to grow huge along with its appetite for blood. Overflowing with quirky characters and ridiculous comedic moments, it's easy to understand how this campy feature went on to invade stages across the globe.
