Nantucket Agriculture - An Evening with American Farmland Trust and Island Partners
Wednesday, August 14, 2024
6:30pm-8:00pm
The Nantucket Atheneum
American Farmland Trust, Remain, Sustainable Nantucket, and the Nantucket Land Bank invite you to join us for a special evening dedicated to Nantucket agriculture. We will discuss the present-day challenges the island's food producers face, and the possibilities for Nantucket's farming future.
Keynote remarks from John Piotti, AFT’s President and CEO, who grew up on Nantucket (NHS Class of 1979).
John will share how his island experiences influenced his career trajectory in conservation agriculture and public policy. He is leading American Farmland Trust through a period of rapid organizational growth to meet this critical moment for U.S. farmers and agriculture. John will highlight innovative solutions that are advancing farmland protection, widespread adoption of climate-smart practices, and farmland access across the country.
John is leading American Farmland Trust during a period of rapid growth: 250 staff are working on projects across the U.S. that address the urgent need we have to protect farmland, promote sound farming practices, and keep farmers on the land.
Under John’s leadership, AFT has engaged in the most comprehensive study of American land use ever conducted, and helped secure billions of dollars in federal funding to protect farmland and promote climate-smart agriculture.
This event is free and open to the public. Locally sourced food and refreshments will be provided, courtesy of Remain.
