The night sky on Nantucket is 24% brighter than it was just ten years ago, according to satellite data. Light pollution – the excessive use of artificial light at night – is the cause. Join this discussion to learn why this is harmful for both humans and our natural environment and some simple things that each of us can do to preserve our starry nights.
The guest speaker will be Kelly Beatty, Communications Officer of the Massachusetts Chapter of the International Dark Sky Association (IDA) and former member of IDA’s board of directors.
Hosted by Nantucket Lights, a citizen advocacy group exclusively dedicated to combating light pollution on Nantucket to preserve its heritage of dark skies.
Free admission. Masks required.
